product description
A shale formation reagent is a specialized fluid or additive designed to mitigate the effects of shale during drilling. It covers shale particles and prevents them from entering the drilling fluid, reducing the chance of drill string sticking and circulation loss. Shale layer agents can also help stabilize the wellbore and enhance core recovery.
There are different types of shale layer agents available, including clay stabilizers, surfactants, and polymers. The role of clay stabilizers is to prevent the hydration of clay minerals and reduce the plasticity and swelling of shale. Surfactants are used to break down surface tension and reduce adhesion between shale and drilling fluids. The polymer forms a protective film that creates a barrier between the drilling fluid and the shale. Some shale formation reagents are formulated for specific shale formations.
Choosing the right shale layer agent is very important because different shale formations have different properties. For example, shale formations with a high clay content require the use of clay stabilizers. Conversely, shale formations with high salinity may benefit from the use of surfactants. Shale layer agents should also be compatible with the drilling fluids used.
Application method
Sediment coating inhibitors are usually added to the drilling fluid in the form of a liquid, which is transported to the bottom of the well and coated on the well wall through the circulation of the drilling fluid.
When adding inhibitors, the appropriate amount and method of addition need to be determined based on factors such as the circulation volume of the drilling fluid, well depth, formation characteristics, etc.
